THAILAND

I moved to Khon Kaen, Thailand for my first ever teaching job at Patanadek Bilingual School teaching KG1B. I had a class of 26 rambunctious three and four years olds that I quickly fell in love with. While the job was not without its challenges, they were greatly outweighed by all the smiles and love I got in return from my students. I worked with a Thai co-teacher who helped me navigate everyday responsibilities at the school and helped me learn some basic Thai language. Some of my responsibilities included creating engaging lesson plans for my students that helped improve their speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension. I also helped plan parties and class events and activities, participated in and lead faculty meetings, and conducted parent-teacher conferences and student evaluations.

While teaching was an incredibly rewarding experience for me, equally rewarding opportunities I had were being able to travel through Thailand and Southeast Asia. Some of my favorite places I visited in Thailand were Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Krabi, Khao Sok National Park, and Ayutthaya. Learning about the history and culture I was living in was fascinating. Celebrating Thai holidays like Songkran, Loy Kratong, and Thai New Year gave me insights to traditions and aspects to Thai culture that I wouldn't have known otherwise, and I was so grateful to be able to participate in them. I miss my students and friends in Thailand so much, but I know I'll return someday.
